Choose According to Necessity

Of course, the first thing you need to consider is your needs. What do you need? What kind of camping supplies should you have? What kind of features should your RV have? The following are the factors you need to consider in choosing an RV.

Seating Capacity

You must consider who's coming with you on your trip and how many they are. Look for a type of RV that can accommodate the people who’ll join the camping trip. A motorhome can typically house more than five people, but some RVs can accommodate at least a dozen. The price, however, might cost more for those with a large seating capacity.

Towability

Towability refers to the property of being towed. An RV can either tow or be towed. Choosing which one you should take will depend on the vehicles you have. You can go for a towable RV if you have a vehicle that’s capable of towing it. But if you don't have a vehicle, or you have one that you want to bring on your trip, you can opt for RV's that can tow.

Size and Storage

Size matters in a vehicle. Camping requires several items to bring, and thus you need enough storage for this equipment. There are many RVs with the right storage area, and some RVs even have a wardrobe where you can keep your clothes. You can always inquire about the storage of the RVs upon choosing.

Additional Home Amenities

RV's are unique with different kinds of facilities you see in your own home. Most models have particular amenities and equipment such as bathrooms, ovens, and outdoor shade. Moreover, you could buy equipment and accessories that are sold separately. But if you are on a limited budget, it's best to look for RVs with built-in accessories.

Choose According to Type

RV's have several variations that vary in tow ability, amenities, and more. The following are some of the different types of RV's.

Class A Diesel Motorhomes

Class A motorhomes have enough vast space to occupy several people, with excellent quality home amenities. It runs on diesel, with the engine located at the rear coach. This feature makes this type of RV perfect for long-distance travel, luxurious travel, and an elegant camping trip. As good as the quality goes, however, it’s also expensive.

Class A Gas Motorhomes

Class A gas motorhomes, like their diesel counterpart, are a large type of RV. It also offers several good home amenities with an actual house ambiance, making them a suitable motorhome, especially for those who want to live in an RV permanently. It also has useful storage to put your camping equipment and is spacious enough for several people.

Class B Motorhomes

Class B motorhomes are RVs for those who love frequent road trips and campings. Also called camper vans, it’s equipped to travel even in off-road areas, so it’s an excellent choice for adventurous people. While it’s smaller than class A motorhomes, its interior still has necessary home amenities that you can adjust for your needs.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes are similar to class A, with quality home amenities and seating capacity for several people. It’s smaller than class A, but cheaper and has a bigger size than class B. It’s a good choice for people who do frequent road trips and camping.

Fifth Wheel Campers

Fifth wheel campers towable motorhomes and are the biggest model of the towable models. This type of RV is often towed by large pickup trucks given their size and has a good amount of space for several home amenities. It’s best for those who have a vehicle capable enough to tow it.

Toy Haulers

Toy Haulers are another big type of towable motorhome. Also known as sport-utility RV's, this type of motorhome has a garage that can fit in smaller vehicles, such as motorcycles, ATV's, and small boats. This RV is perfect for those seeking extra adventure on flat terrains and lakes.

Travel Trailers

Travel Trailers are considered a favorite towable motorhome. It has a smaller size and is easy to attach and detach for parking. Sometimes it has slideout features that you can extend for more space. Travel trailers have several unique floor plans and styles with varying weights. It offers the right home living anywhere you go.

Teardrop Trailers

Teardrop trailers are like travel trailers but smaller and in a teardrop shape, hence the name. Since it’s small, it doesn’t have enough space for every essential home amenities. Its smallest floor plan only includes a bed and a few furniture. However, bigger models with adjustable amenities are similar to those in class B motorhomes. Nonetheless, people love these teardrop trailers with their unique design.

Pop Up Campers

Pop up campers are towed trailers with a slideout resembling a tent described as "pop out." Those that pop out are called canvas slides, serving as an extra bed that can accommodate two or more people. It’s a good option for those who don’t want to sleep in a tent on the ground.

Choose According to the Budget

Probably one of the most important tips in having an RV is to stay within the range of your budget. RV's are expensive, and the regular maintenance it needs costs tons of money. The following are tips you could follow in obtaining an RV within a small budget.

Buy Used RV's

In RV purchase, it's not only brand new models that are being sold. Some manufacturers sell used or secondhand RV's. You might find this a better option because it’s cheaper. There are several used RV's being sold and still in good quality. However, there might be unseen wear and tear in the motorhome, which might pose a danger. It might also require more maintenance, especially old models.

Finance RV's

RV loans are quite common. This is a good option if you want to own an RV but cannot pay the full price all at once. Applying for an RV loan means you have to pay a fraction of the total price of the RV for every month until it's paid off.

There are many establishments as to where to finance a motorhome. You can apply for an RV loan through your bank, lending companies, and even RV companies. Used RV's can also be loaned.

Rent RV's

If you're only using the RV for one time or do not plan to own one, renting an RV is your best option. It’s cheaper than the amount you have to pay for financing one for a month plus other expenses, which costs at least a hundred dollars per day. Renting an RV can be an excellent way to try out the RV you want to buy or finance, too.

Takeaway

RVs are an excellent vehicle to have if you love camping activities, as you got yourself both a vehicle and your camp in one. It would be best to plan what you need and select the RV that best suits the dream camping getaway you have in mind.
