What is Camping?

Camping is a camp for car travelers. Some come in motorhomes, others bring the necessary equipment in cars and put up tents. Camping itself usually provides toilets, water, a shower, and electricity, sometimes some kind of minimal infrastructure such as shops. Some campsites have private houses. They are designed for companies from 4 to 6 people, but usually, everyone is busy during the season.

In order to freely plan the route and not depend on anyone, it is convenient to travel by car with a tent. You just choose your campsite along the way, come, spend the night and keep going. Sometimes there is a pool at the campsites. There are many campsites especially for nudists in Europe.

Terms of Use

Usually, in campsites, there is a shower, toilet, electricity. You come, register, get a code from the barrier, pay either immediately or at the end of the vacation. Look for free space and set up a tent.

In the high season, large campsites can take guests for at least a week, they just can’t take somebody who wants to spend only one night. Look for smaller and simpler campsites.

Campsites usually have a daily routine. It is often forbidden to enter the territory by car after 22:00. You can go out or enter the campsite on foot so as not to disturb the neighbors. Noise at night is also strictly prohibited: everyone is sleeping.

1. Choose Camping by Cost

The price per night depends on the position of the campsite, the season, the availability of a pool, Wi-Fi, the number of guests and so on.

The price varies depending on your needs: when registering, you fill out a card in which you write how many of you want to stay, for how many nights you want to stay, what have you come for, are there any children and animals with you, do you need electricity and other services. Based on this information, you will be charged with the cost of living.

Prices start at 10 € for two per night, but it is if you are very lucky. The average price per night is 15-30 €. For additional services like electricity, most often you will have to pay about 3 € per day. Sometimes in campsites paid shower.

There are large campsites with a pool, a playground, a private beach, and other pleasures - they are more expensive. In such campsites conduct group excursions, rent balls and rackets, entertain guests. A night in them can cost up to 50-60 €, which is still cheaper than a three-star hotel in Europe. This is especially beneficial if you come with a family or a large company.

2. Make a Route

It is best to make a route before the trip and pre-arrange campsites along the way. It is useful to enter their coordinates in the navigator, and not just the address, but precisely the geographical coordinates: in the wild rural areas this is more useful.

I advise you to choose some spare campsites: there are many car travelers in Europe and there may not be places at the campsite selected. If you just want to search for campsites along the way, try not to do this too late in the evening: many close the entrance after 22:00.

If you are 100% sure of your route, camping sites can be booked in advance. Sometimes campsites do not charge money in advance and cannot reserve a place for a tent. This is important if you need a visa to travel.

To find campsites, use aggregator sites.

3. Prefer Wild Overnight

If it’s too late, but there are no places in the nearest campsites, there is another option, a “wild overnight”. You yourself are looking for a comfortable and safe place to spend the night. You can move off a busy highway and put up a tent somewhere in the field. You can sleep in a car at a gas station on a toll motorway if there is parking. You see truckers parked for the night, you can safely join.

The rules of such overnight stays in different countries may vary. For example, somewhere it’s forbidden to sleep in a car, somewhere to put up a tent in an open field. Check the rules in advance according to your route.

In General...

If you live in campsites, you can greatly save on accommodation and food. You will have to live in a tent and use the toilet and shower in a shared sanitary unit. Before you travel, build a route in advance and check the campsites you plan to go to. Many close at 10 pm. Always put the tent, focusing on the electrical panel; your extension cord must reach it. Watch your valuable items, the administration is not responsible for them. Prepare yourself carefully: pack your things for the trip for any weather, take warm clothes, an umbrella and waterproof shoes. Good luck!
