How Do Portable Solar Panels Help With Hunting? 7 Ways

Last Updated on 07/25/2019 by Brian John

If you say you’re going hunting, you’ll receive tons of advice on gear you need to take. One of the less likely recommendations would be solar panels. Yet they’re indispensable once you learn of their benefits. Here are 7 ways portable solar panels help with hunting no matter what or where you're hunting.

  2. 02. Don’t Be Beyond Help
  3. 03. Don’t Expose Yourself
  4. 04. Don’t Put Yourself at Risk
  5. 05. Keep an Eye on Things Remotely
  6. 06. It Lightens Your Load
  7. 07. You’ll Minimize Your Environmental Footprint
  8. Conclusion

01. Never Get Lost Again

While many hunters want to think that they have the tracking skills of their ancestors, the reality is that most of us do not, no matter how many realities shows we’ve watched. The solution is to use a combination of cell phones and GPS devices, since GPS will work in places cell phones won’t.

You don’t want to risk these devices going dead, though that’s exactly what happens if you’re left wandering all day. Carry portable solar panels with you to keep them charged.

02. Don’t Be Beyond Help

Regardless of haters who will attack you for being a hunter who will say you’re beyond help, the truth is that you don’t want to be unable to call for help. You don’t want to end up with an accident turning into a horror movie or gripping survival movie.

Carry portable solar panels with you so that you can charge cell phones, amateur radios and other equipment. Then you can call for help no matter where you are.

03. Don’t Expose Yourself

If you’re a hunter, you want to be as quiet and peaceful as possible. That is shattered the moment you rev up a generator. Solar panels allow you to quietly recharge mobile devices and lights.

You might be able to run a fan to keep cool, allowing you to stay in the shelter longer. You may be able to stay in the area longer, too, if you’re using renewable energy instead of gas.

04. Don’t Put Yourself at Risk

There are several variations of this advice. First, hunters should have flashlights and other sources of light available at all times. You want to have that light in case you’re attacked by a predator, and the lights can be used to keep predators at bay. Then there’s the practical benefit of working lights.

You’re less likely to fall down a ladder from the duck blind or fall into a hole on your way to the latrine if you have proper lighting. Carry portable solar panels with you so that you can minimize these unnecessary risks.

05. Keep an Eye on Things Remotely

Portable solar panels can be used to charge batteries at remote sites. We’ve already discussed charging the gear you carry in with you. Did you know you could use them to charge gear you leave at the site, as well? Use portable solar panels to charge the batteries for security cameras and wildlife cameras.

You’ll know whether it is wild pigs or human trespassers drinking from your water tank. This information could save you from being attacked by people illegally growing recreational drugs in the area.

You can keep an eye on the campsite while you’re away, if you have a wireless signal from the camera, too.

06. It Lightens Your Load

There are probably people reading this and wondering why they shouldn’t just use battery packs. The main reason is that solar panels will lighten your load.

The solar panels are lighter than a battery pack, and they can’t run out of juice. If you decide to bring a battery pack with you, you could get away with a much lighter one since the solar panels could recharge it for you.

The weight really matters when you’re hiking out of the wilderness with your catch, because you’re ideally pulling much more weight than you carried in.

This really adds up when you’re taking a boat or plane in to your camp site, and your party is charged by the pound. To know more, check out the website here.

07. You’ll Minimize Your Environmental Footprint

Hunters are often among the most ardent conservationists, because they spend so much time in the wild. They don’t want to pollute the land they’re hiking, biking and hunting in.

Carrying solar panels eliminates the risk that you’ll lose or choose to discard of toxic batteries rather than carry them out. They eliminate the need to carry gasoline or another fuel out to the campsite and the risk of a fuel spill.

You can carry the solar panel in and out, leaving nothing but footprints and taking nothing but memories, pictures, your gear and whatever game you caught.

Conclusion

Hunters should switch to solar power. It is an economical and environmentally friendly decision. More importantly, it improves your experience on the hunting trip and increases the odds you catch your quarry.  And that, to many hunters, is the most important reason to buy portable solar.
